Reported symptoms

Questions to ask

Pose these to the service advisor at intake. Request answers in writing or via email.
  1. Has the Audi dealer confirmed in writing that any campaign applied to VIN (Vehicle Identification Number) [VIN] is Q8 e-tron-specific (2024 rebrand), rather than an original e-tron (2019-2022) campaign that may not apply due to the BMS (Battery Management System) and software refresh?
  2. Has VIN [VIN] been inspected per the original e-tron battery thermal recall, and was the determination that the recall does or does not apply documented in writing?
  3. Is the issue being addressed under the EV component warranty, the basic warranty, or as goodwill?

Documents to request

Each item should be received in writing before authorizing repair work.

Pre-service evidence

Capture before drop-off. Once the vehicle leaves your possession, proving prior condition becomes significantly harder.

Service advisor interaction

Operational notes specific to the conversation at the service desk.

Repair authorization

Cautions before signing.

Post-service verification

Complete before leaving the service location. Issues that surface after departure are operationally harder to attribute to the visit.

Email templates

Documentation-focused templates for service correspondence. Tap copy to use. Subject and body are kept verbatim — paste them as-is into your email client.

Observational patterns

The Q8 e-tron (2024+) is the rebrand and refresh of the original Audi e-tron (2019-2022). Service interactions can conflate the two due to the shared platform and similar appearance, but the Q8 e-tron has substantial software and BMS updates that affect campaign applicability.

Campaign coverage for the original e-tron may or may not apply to the Q8 e-tron, depending on the specific defect and production date. Owner-side awareness of the platform distinction is operationally important to avoid mistaken campaign exclusion or inclusion.

The Q8 e-tron is on the older MLB-derived platform, distinct from the newer PPE platform (Q6 e-tron, A6 e-tron, Macan EV) and MEB platform (Q4 e-tron). Service-system records should clearly identify the platform.

Charging session failures are sometimes attributed to charging network behavior. Vehicle-side BMS logs are the more reliable source for determining whether the vehicle terminated the session.
