ICCU: Integrated Charging Control Unit

A critical hardware component in modern EVs (notably the Hyundai E-GMP platform) that manages both high-voltage battery charging and the low-voltage (12V) battery power supply.

Deep Dive

The ICCU is essentially the 'brain' of the charging system. It combines the functions of an On-Board Charger (OBC) and a DC-DC converter. Failures in the ICCU often lead to the vehicle losing power while driving or failing to start because the 12V battery is no longer being charged by the high-voltage pack. This has been a major source of recalls for the Hyundai Ioniq 5, Ioniq 6, and Kia EV6.

Common Symptoms

  • Check electric vehicle system warning light
  • 12V battery discharge
  • Audible 'pop' or 'click' followed by power loss
  • Failure to initiate DC fast charging
