BYD Seal battery warning (2023—2025)
Diagnostic code reference

Reported symptoms
- High-voltage battery system warning illuminated on the instrument cluster
- Reduced power, limp mode, or unexplained drop in available driving range
- Charging session terminating early or reducing the maximum charge ceiling without explanation
- OBD scan returns one or more Blade-battery cell-related fault codes during dealer diagnostic
- Sudden reduction in displayed state-of-charge after a recent charging session
- Notification from BYD or the dealer requesting a service visit for battery inspection
Questions to ask
- Has an OBD diagnostic scan been performed on the high-voltage battery pack per the BYD India January 2026 service procedure, and what were the findings?
- If a fault is detected, will the entire battery pack be replaced, or is a cell-level repair being proposed?
- What is the warranty period that will apply to a replacement battery pack — does it carry the original pack's remaining warranty, or a new warranty term?
Documents to request
- Diagnostic report listing all stored, pending, and historical fault codes related to the high-voltage battery, BMS , and thermal management systems
- Battery pack inspection report including cell-level voltage data and OBD-scan results, with pass/fail determination against the BYD service criteria
- Part number of any replacement battery pack installed, along with the warranty terms that apply to the replacement
Pre-service evidence
- Photograph any battery, charging, or thermal warning lights on the cluster before drop-off
- Document any unusual charging behavior — early session terminations, reduced charge ceilings, slow speeds — with dates and locations
- If pickup-and-delivery service is offered (as in the BYD India recall procedure), retain documentation of vehicle hand-off and return condition
Service advisor interaction
- Record the service advisor's name and the date and time of each conversation
- Note whether the visit is classified as recall, battery warranty, extended coverage, or goodwill — each has distinct downstream implications
- If the dealership cannot confirm a recall flag against the VIN in markets outside India, request documentation of how the work is being classified
- Document any reference to the BYD India January 2026 voluntary recall, including any statements about whether the same defect pattern has been observed in this market
Repair authorization
- Recall remedies are performed at no cost to the owner. If the work is being performed outside a formal recall, request written coverage classification before authorizing.
- For battery pack replacement, confirm in writing the part number, the warranty period that will apply, and whether existing battery warranty terms transfer to the replacement
- Repair authorization forms may include language permitting additional related work — read carefully and decline blanket scope additions
- If the dealership proposes a partial repair or cell-level intervention rather than full pack replacement, request written documentation of the diagnostic basis and the deviation from the manufacturer-published remedy
Post-service verification
- Verify battery system warnings have cleared after the service procedure and remain clear through a full ignition cycle
- Confirm the displayed usable range and charge ceiling on the central display match values expected for the variant and pack capacity
- Test a charging session — both AC (Level 2) and DC fast charging where available — before leaving the service location
- Confirm the repair order matches the work performed and references the correct recall or campaign number
- Note odometer reading, state of charge, and displayed range at pickup

Warranty notes
- The BYD India voluntary recall is performed at no cost to the owner, including pickup-and-delivery support in some markets. Charges presented in connection with this work should be confirmed in writing before authorization.
- Replacement battery packs may carry warranty terms different from the original pack. Confirm in writing the warranty period that will apply to any replacement.
- BYD has stated the defect is specific to the Seal and does not apply to the Atto 3, Sealion 7, or other models in the lineup. Records showing prior service history are relevant if the dealership questions inclusion in the recall.
- Repairs performed under goodwill do not extend the warranty period. Confirm in writing whether work is classified as recall, warranty, or goodwill.
Observational patterns
The BYD Seal voluntary recall in India is administered as a free OBD diagnostic at authorized service centers, with full battery pack replacement provided if a cell-level defect is detected. Pickup-and-delivery support is offered in some service areas.
The recall scope is described as covering all Seal variants and both battery options. BYD has stated the defect does not extend to the Atto 3, Sealion 7, or other models in the lineup, supporting a Seal-specific (likely batch- or pack-integration-related) characterization.
Owners in markets outside India should monitor official local distributor communications. The cell-level defect is platform-relevant; whether and when the formal recall is issued in other markets is a distributor decision.
The BYD Blade battery uses LFP chemistry, generally regarded as stable and abuse-resistant. The recall does not invalidate that general profile; manufacturing variations or batch concerns can still surface in field service.
